The Department of Rural Socio-Economics is a division within the College of Rural Development tasked with managing, organizing, educating, and conducting scientific research in areas pertaining to agribusiness and agricultural economics.
MAIN ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
1. UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING
- The Department directly oversees and educates undergraduate students enrolled in the Agribusiness program, which plays a crucial role in the socio-economic development of rural areas.
- Additionally, the department coordinates the management of education and training programs in various fields related to rural socio-economics, including Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Law, Vietnamese Studies, English Language, and others.

2. SHORT TRAINING
With the aim of serving the community, enhancing qualifications, and updating knowledge for officials and farmers in the Mekong Delta region, the Department collaborates with other units within the College as well as relevant entities both within and outside the University to conduct short-term training courses tailored to the needs of society and rural areas in the fields under the Department's purview. Some of the short-term training courses organized by the Department include:
- Enhancing knowledge of new rural development.
- Cultivating expertise in establishing and advancing new cooperative models.
- Facilitating development and marketing strategies for agricultural products.
- Providing guidance on the development of One Commune One Product (OCOP) items.
- Managing and operating new cooperative models; Formulating medium and long-term business plans for cooperatives; Cooperative-based collective purchasing and marketing; Internal financing mechanisms.
- Negotiation skills; Agricultural marketing techniques.
3. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
- The Department's scientific research endeavors are geared towards addressing practical challenges and local needs within the expertise and domains of the Department's faculty, including cooperative development, rural economics, new rural development, climate change, and community adaptation, among others. Emphasizing collaboration, the Department actively engages with internal and external units of the University, as well as localities and international organizations, to conduct research, thereby broadening the scope and enhancing the quality of research efforts.
- The Department has undertaken numerous research projects funded by various sources, including international cooperation programs, state and ministry-level research initiatives, collaborative projects with localities, and university-level research endeavors. These endeavors not only support research activities but also foster stronger collaborative ties with partners.

4. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
- International cooperation significantly enhances the Department's educational, research, and technology transfer endeavors, bolstering their scope and quality. Hence, the Department prioritizes efforts to enhance staff capabilities and foster an international learning environment.
- Currently, the Department actively collaborates with various international organizations within the College, including the University of Arkansas, Peacework (United States), the University of Tokyo, and Saga University (Japan), among others. Additionally, Department staff members engage in consultancy roles for several international organizations such as GIZ, MCNV, SNV, GFA, CARE, UNDP, MYI (KOICA), OXFAM, and JICA, further augmenting their global engagement.
